The construction and infrastructure sector in India has boomed in the last few years. Therefore it’s no surprise that the industry has witnessed much advancement in technology and new innovations, all of which are aimed at completing construction at a faster rate and delivering high performance. In view of the demand for fast-paced construction, one practice that has been increasing in popularity in recent times is gypsum plasterboard based drywall construction.
India ranks second on the basis of population in the world. Agricultural land utilised by the burgeoning population, the cultivable land resource is shrinking day by day. To meet the food, fibre, fuel, fodder, and other needs of the growing population, the productivity of agricultural land has to be increased rationally. This requires the use of all resources judiciously. In India, the mineral gypsum is mostly used in the manufacture of cement, fertiliser, plaster of Paris, ceramics and distemper. Smaller quantity is used as soil conditioner, for carving and statuary purposes. India has huge resources of natural gypsum of the order of 1120 million tonnes, of which recoverable reserves are estimated at 237 million tonnes. Over 95 per cent of the natural gypsum come from Rajasthan.

Gypsum plaster is among the most commonly used building material. It is also known as the plaster of Paris. It basically includes features which are quite similar to cement or mortar. Gypsum, a naturally occurring mineral, is heated to 300 degree Fahrenheit and it is then mixed with water. This process produces a soft and pliable paste which hardens as it cools. As this building material is soft and easy to manipulate even after it is cured, it is widely used for aesthetic purposes.
Today, the center for investigations is the Four Coasts project. Research Collaborative (co-founded by Holmes), and design research on hydrological control infrastructures, (aquifer systems), in South Florida, supported by the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts.
